Trump Order Imposes Additional 25% Tariff On Goods From India
The Hindustan Petroleum (HP) logo is pictured at a fuel station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on August 7, 2025. In an escalation of trade tensions between the United States and India, US President Donald Trump, on August 6, 2025, signs an executive order imposing a 25 percent ad valorem tariff on all Indian imports into the United States. The ad valorem duty imposed in Executive Order 14257 applies in addition to the ad valorem duty imposed in section 2 of the order. This effectively means some categories of Indian exports face a combined tariff burden of over 50 percent, depending on their classification. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto)
