Toulouse Bake Under Oppressive Heat As All France

A nearly empty street in Toulouse, France, on August 12, 2025, while a pharmacy thermometer indicates 41?C. France suffocates under its second heatwave of the year. In Toulouse, temperatures reach 41.5?C. This heatwave is remarkable for its intensity: numerous departments are on 'red alertness heatwave'. Streets are empty during the hottest hours. Some temperature records are and will be broken during this heatwave, especially in the southwest. France is 8 to 15?C above normal temperatures for August. This heatwave is due to an omega phenomenon where a drip of hot air is blocked by fresh air. Nearly all departments, such as Haute-Garonne (Toulouse), are placed on red alert heatwave, and sixteen are placed on orange alert. This heatwave comes at the same time climate experts say limiting global warming to +1.5?C won't be achievable as agreed in 2015 during the COP21 in Paris. All of southern Europe bakes under unusually hot temperatures. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
