30-year-old Man Who Is An Undocumented Immigrant Fatally Shot By An Off-duty Police Officer After Wielding A Gun
NYPD crime scene unit investigators conduct a daylight search for evidence, utilize evidence markers, and collect evidence at the scene where an off-duty police officer fatally shoots a 30-year-old man wielding a gun in Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York, on August 18, 2025. Officials say two men on mopeds approach an off-duty officer just before 9:45 p.m. Sunday and ask if they know a certain person's name. One of the men pulls a gun, and the off-duty officer draws his firearm and discharges multiple rounds. The 30-year-old man is pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital. Police believe the man fatally shot is an undocumented migrant from the Dominican Republic who crosses the border in El Paso, Texas, in June 2024.
