Yonshi Ceremonial Pole Brought To Hanumandhoka Ahead Of Indra Jatra
Members of the Nepal Army from the Gurju Paltan take part in the procession of pulling the Yonshi (ceremonial pole/Indra Dhwaj) through the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal, from Bhotahiti toward Hanumandhoka Durbar Square during preparations for the Indra Jatra festival on August 31, 2025. The Yonshi, ceremonially cut from the forest in Bhaktapur, is escorted along the traditional route with devotees guiding it, some bowing in reverence as it passes. The Yonshi is formally raised on Bhadra 19 as per the Nepali calendar, after which the eight-day-long festival officially starts, honoring Indra, the King of Heaven and Lord of Rains.
