Commemoration Of The 86th Anniversary Of The Outbreak Of World War II At The Defenders Of The Polish Post Office Square

In Gdansk, Poland, on September 1, 2025, Jerzy Grzywacz, a scout and witness to the outbreak of World War II, attends the ceremony at the Defenders of the Polish Post Office Square on the 86th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. The attack on the Polish Post Office building occurs simultaneously with the beginning of the shelling of Westerplatte. Despite overwhelming enemy forces, the postal workers defend access to the Polish Post Office building for fourteen hours. (Photo by Klaudia Radecka/NurPhoto)
