Nepali Youths Continue To Leave Nation For Foreign Employment, Education Amid New Political Change
Nepali migrants pose for a photo outside the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, on October 2, 2025, before heading into the terminal to board the plane. According to data from the Department of Foreign Employment, nearly 800,000 Nepali leave the country annually for work or education. Gulf countries account for much of this migration, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Qatar at the top of the list. The steep rise in the number of migrant workers heading to foreign countries also leads to a significant rise in remittances. According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, the central bank of the Himalayan nation, over 70% of remittances are sourced from the Gulf countries. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
