Once Popular Sports In Nepal, Football Gets Kicked To Side As Domestic Leagues Fail To Commence

A Nepali football enthusiast and supporter of domestic teams holds a banner reading ''Enough of lies, let football rise'' while protesting outside the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) in Lalitpur, Nepal, on October 12, 2025, demanding the governing body to organize domestic tournaments on time. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), Nepal's football governing body, is unable to organize the league tiers--A, B, and C Divisions in a timely manner, which disrupts domestic football. A-Division clubs live off other domestic tournaments for the past two years, since June 2023 when Church Boys United (CBU) lifted the title in their maiden entry to the highest tier. Further, they become only the second team, after Manang Marsyangdi Club, to win C, B, and A Divisions in consecutive seasons (2021, 2022, and 2023). Football is one of the most popular games in the Himalayan nation of Nepal, but it slowly loses its charm. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
