Nepal Observes Chhath, Festival Of Benediction To Lord “Sun”
A Nepali Hindu devotee performs rituals of crawling towards the Chhath ghat carrying offerings to be made to the setting sun on the third day of the four-day-long festival of Chhath, the festival of benediction to Lord ''Surya'' - the Sun, in Parsa district of Nepal on October 27, 2025. Chhath, the festival of benediction to Lord ''Surya'' - the Sun, starts from the day Karthik Shukla Chathurthi and ends on Shukla Saptami according to the lunar calendar. Thekuwa, Khajuri, and Kasar, along with varieties of dry fruits, fruits, and flowers, constitute the basket popularly known as ''Dhakri''. Devotees fast and worship the sun for the long lives and well-being of their family members, also praying for their expectations and attempts to come true. Chhath is celebrated for all the members of the family. The Hindu religion adores and respects Lord Sun, who at the time of Chhath is also called ''Chatti Mata'' or goddess of Chhath.
