Works Of Art By Henri Matisse And Cândido Portinari Were Stolen In São Paulo, Brazil.

The facade of the Mario de Andrade Municipal Library is in the central region of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on December 8, 2025. Thirteen works of art are stolen from the location by two armed men on Sunday morning, December 7, 2025. According to the Sao Paulo City Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, the criminals take eight engravings by the French artist Henri Matisse and five engravings by the Brazilian artist Candido Portinari from the ''Menino de Engenho'' series. The pieces are part of the exhibition ''From Book to Museum,'' mounted in partnership with the Museum of Modern Art of Sao Paulo (MAM). (Photo by Fabio Vieira/FotoRua/NurPhoto)
