44th Anniversary Of The Pacification Of The 'Wujek' Mine In Katowice
Karol Nawrocki, President of Poland, attends a Mass in the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross during the commemoration of the 44th anniversary of the Pacification of the 'Wujek' Mine in Katowice, Poland, on December 16, 2025. On December 16, 1981, in Katowice, striking miners at the 'Wujek' coal mine are violently suppressed by units of ZOMO acting under orders issued by Wojciech Jaruzelski. As a result of these actions, six miners are killed at the scene, three others later die in hospital, and 23 are injured. These events bring the strike at the mine to an end.
