Jalebi - Indian Food - Sweet Dessert
Jalebi is a popular sweet snack found in South and West Asia, Africa, and Mauritius. It is known by various names, including Jilapi, Zelepi, Jilebi, Jilipi, Zulbia, Jerry, Mushabak, Z'labia, or Zalabia. The South Asian variety is made by deep-frying a batter of maida flour (plain or all-purpose flour) into pretzel or circular shapes, which are then soaked in sugar syrup. Jalebi is often served with curd or rabri (in North India) and can be flavored with additions such as kewra (scented water). Hot jalebis are prepared in a pan in a streetside sweet shop at a village fair in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on December 25, 2025. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
