81st Birth Anniversary Of Late King Birendra Observed In Nepal

The Late King Birendra Peace Foundation and various organizations observe the 81st birth anniversary of the late King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev by offering floral tributes at his statue and portrait in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, Nepal, on december 29, 2025. Participants pay homage and recall the late monarch's contributions to Nepal, particularly his role in promoting national unity, peace, and democratic reforms during his reign. King Birendra, born on December 28, 1945 (Poush 14, 2002 B.S.), is remembered for advocating Nepal as a Zone of Peace and for guiding the country through significant political transitions. He is assassinated on June 1, 2001 (Jestha 19, 2058 B.S.), during the tragic royal palace massacre at Narayanhiti Palace. (Photo by Safal Prakash Shrestha/NurPhoto)
