Protesters Block Tláhuac Avenue In Mexico City To Demand Housing Rights
On January 12, 2026, members of the United Human Settlements Coalition in Mexico City, Mexico, block Paso del Conejo to protest alleged harassment by authorities from the Ministry of the Environment. Some protesters are on horseback and donkeys. The protesters demand the immediate suspension of the Administrative Recovery of Conservation Land proceedings taking place in the Sierra Santa Catarina. They argue that these actions violate their rights and are carried out without prior dialogue. They claim that some people purchase land in the area, which is a protected zone and therefore cannot be used for any type of urban settlement. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
