Inside Vasilika refugee camp in Greece

The Vasilika refugee camp is a military-run refugee camp located in an old warehouse in Vasilika village (Thermi) near Souroti, Central Macedonia, Greece on 11 July 2016. The is no vendilation inside, and the roof is from sheet metal increasing the high summer temperatures inside. The running water is low and warm. Food is very bad sometimes. The camp opened on 14 June 2016 to host the refugees evicted from the Idomeni refugee camp and Hotel Hara in Evzoni near the Greek - FYROM (Macedonia) borders). Greek authorities declared that 1,158 people, fundamentally Syrian and Iraqi, were moved from the Eko camp (belonging to Idomeni refugee camp) to Vasilika in buses. As of 23 June 2016, there were 1,205 refugees registered in the Vasilika refugee camp. Some refugees have denounced to the media the poor conditions of the camp regarding food and facilities. The camp is near the road that connects Thessaloniki with Poligiros and there is high traffic. Citizens protested before bringing the refugees here against the big number of refugees. Refugees also protest sometimes because of the bad living conditions.
