Indonesian Muslims Observe New Moon For Ramadan

In Jakarta, Indonesia, on February 17, 2026, Indonesian Muslims hold a Rukyatul Hilal to see the new crescent moon that determines the start of Ramadan at Jami Musyari'in Mosque. The Indonesian government determines the start of Ramadan with two methods, namely hisab (calculation) and rukyah, or an astronomy observation to confirm the hisab method. The start of Ramadan is determined when the hilal, or the new moon's position, is above 2 degrees.
