Garh Panchakot - Capital For Eight Centuries – Fort Of The Five Clans - Encounters
Garh Panchkot, a historic ruined fort and palace complex at the foothills of the Panchet Hills in Purulia district, eastern India, is seen on Jan. 13, 2026. Built around 940 A.D. by the Singh Deo dynasty and later destroyed during 18th-century Maratha attacks, the site includes remnants of the royal palace, temples reflecting Shaktism and Vaishnavism, and a nearby Jain cave, set amid forested hills near the Panchet Dam on the Damodar River.
