Nightjar Bird Hunting Winged Termites - Animal Behaviour

Nightjars are medium-sized, primarily nocturnal or crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk) birds in the family Caprimulgidae. They are known for their camouflage, insectivorous diet and wide, bristle-fringed mouths. They hunt moths and other insects in flight and are often seen swooping around streetlights or in open woodlands. Here, nightjars and spotted owlets fly near neem trees at night to catch winged termites in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on January 21, 2026. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
