Koules Fortress, also known as the Rocca al Mare, is a coastal stronghold located at the entrance of the old harbor in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Built by the Venetians in the early 16th century, it serves as a key defensive fortification controlling access to the city's port. Today, it stands as one of Heraklion's most recognizable landmarks and a major historical attraction. (Photo by Nikolas Kokovlis/NurPhoto)
