Daily Life In Pondicherry

A monument in memory of William Stevens stands in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, India, on August 26, 2017. The monument is sacred to the memory of William Stevens Esq, a major in the East India Company Service and Chief Engineer at the Siege of Pondicherry, who was killed by a cannonball on October 16, 1718. Pondicherry, or Puducherry, is a Union Territory in South India, known as a former French colony offering a unique blend of French colonial architecture, spirituality, and coastal charm. Located on the Bay of Bengal, it is famous for its 'White Town' area, Sri Aurobindo Ashram, calm beaches, and a distinct French-Tamil culture. (Photo by Creative Touch Imaging Ltd./NurPhoto)
