Gas Line Explosion In Newark Injures Three, Forces Evacuations On Magazine Street

Authorities work at the scene of a gas line explosion causing displacements and major damage to a home on Magazine Street in Newark, New Jersey, on March 14, 2026. An explosion at a Newark home on Saturday afternoon injures three people and forces nearby residents to evacuate as emergency crews work to secure the area. Police and firefighters respond at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, to 86 Magazine Street after reports of an explosion. Construction workers are performing work on a water line when a gas line is accidentally struck, triggering an explosion. The blast causes the front facade of the home to partially blow outward, sending siding into the street and shattering several windows. Two juveniles, ages 15 and 16, along with a construction worker, are transported to University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Officials report no additional injuries.
