Natural Landscape - Purulia - Plateau
Ukamburu Hill in Murguma, Purulia, West Bengal, India, on January 12, 2026. Situated within the Ajodhya Hills, part of the extended Eastern Ghats, the area is known for its panoramic views of the rugged landscape, rocky plateau, valleys of the Dalma Hills range, and the Saharajhore River flowing through the surrounding residual hills and valleys. Muruguma Lake, with its deciduous forest, is also part of the Kotshila Range, a forest management area known for its biodiversity and offbeat nature tourism. The region offers scenic rural landscapes and is home to rare nocturnal wildlife, including the honey badger. It is inhabited by indigenous communities such as the Santal, Munda, Bhumij, and Birhor, contributing to the socio-cultural richness of the area. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
