Protest And Strike Day Against The Closure Of Classes And Downsizing Of Primary Schoolteachers

A parent holds a cardboard sign reading 'Too much pupils, ignored instructions, but all goes well, we are not a priority education zone' in Toulouse, France, on March 31, 2026. Primary schoolteachers and Support Assistants for Disabled Pupils (AESH) gather in front of the Board of Education following a nationwide call by FSU, CGT'Education, SNuipp-Fsu, and SUD Education to strike and protest. The National Education Ministry has announced a cut of 3,500 schoolteachers across France, with 170 classes set to close next year in the Haute-Garonne department. Schoolteachers are demanding better working conditions and wages. AESH, mainly women, often live under the poverty line and protest against the lack of funding, precarious job contracts, and staff shortages. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
