The Desolata Of Canosa
The statue of Our Lady of Sorrows is carried out of the Church of San Francesco e Biagio on Holy Saturday in Canosa di Puglia, Italy, on April 4, 2026. On the morning of Holy Saturday, a large choir composed exclusively of women with veiled faces and dressed in black sings a traditional hymn, the Stabat Mater, based on the lyrics of Jacopone da Todi. The women, some of whom are barefoot, move slowly with their faces hidden, participating in a ritual that involves the entire community. (Photo by Davide Pischettola/NurPhoto)
