The Desolata Of Canosa

The statue of the Madonna Desolata is carried in procession through the streets during the Desolata ceremony in Canosa di Puglia, Italy, on April 4, 2026. On the morning of Holy Saturday, a large choir of women with veiled faces and dressed in black sings the traditional hymn, the Stabat Mater, based on the lyrics of Jacopone da Todi.
