Flood In Dhaka, Bangladesh

Flood-affected people face challenges in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on August 15, 2017. Bangladesh experiences annual flooding due to monsoon rains, flash floods, and rising global temperatures, which cause snowmelt from the Himalayas. This increases flood risks as torrents of melted ice enter rivers, inundating parts of Bangladesh. The country has 57 trans-boundary rivers, and most areas are less than 12 meters above sea level. It is estimated that about 10% of the land would be flooded if the sea level rose by 1 meter. Bangladesh is one of the most flood-prone countries globally, with approximately 20 to 25% of its territory inundated during the monsoon season. Millions of people are affected, and many lose their lives during floods. Those affected suffer from food shortages, lack of clean drinking water, diseases, and loss of homes, livestock, and crops, enduring difficult conditions during and after floods.
