Prypiat

A classroom is seen in an abandoned secondary school N2 in the ghost town of Prypiat, radioactively contaminated by the Chornobyl disaster, in the Kyiv region, Ukraine, on April 23, 2026. Prypiat, located two kilometers from the nuclear power plant, was evacuated on April 27, 1986, following the explosion of the fourth reactor at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. April 26, 2026, marks the 40th anniversary of the disaster, one of the worst man-made catastrophes in the history of nuclear power. (Photo by Yevhen Kotenko/Ukrinform/NurPhoto)
