India’s High-Speed Train Vande Bharat Express In Kashmir, India
Train drivers sit inside the stationary Vande Bharat Express train at the Srinagar railway station, after being flagged off from Jammu Tawi railway station, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 30, 2026. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates the 20-coach Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar, marking the launch of the first direct train service connecting the twin capitals of Jammu and Kashmir. The new service is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities and enhance tourism, regional mobility, and economic activity. It also aims to provide reliable, all-weather rail connectivity across the Union Territory, integrating the Kashmir Valley with the national transport network. The route includes the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, before reaching the Kashmir Valley. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto)
