Twenty Years After The Repression In Atenco, Claudia Sheinbaum, President Of Mexico, Signs Justice Plan For Atenco And The Mountain Region

Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico, signs the Justice Plan for Atenco and the Mountain Region, which includes the restitution of 54 hectares of communal land, in Mexico on May 3, 2026. This action takes place 20 years after a significant operation by the Federal Preventive Police and municipal and state agents in Texcoco and San Salvador Atenco, State of Mexico, on May 3 and 4, 2006, following a conflict involving flower vendors and municipal authorities. The operation involved approximately 1,000 federal police and 1,815 municipal and state agents and was directed against activists and supporters of the People's Front in Defense of the Land (FPDT). Prior to the event, residents of Acuexcomac and Nexquipayac block the Texcoco-Lecheria highway for an hour, demanding the mayor address a conflict related to the supply of drinking water.
