Switzerland-Based Saanen Goat Breed Introduced In Kashmir, India

Saanen goats, a high-yielding breed from Switzerland known as the ''Milk Queen,'' are seen at the Research Centre for Sheep and Goat of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) on the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on May 05, 2026. The university has introduced these goats to the valley to assess their adaptability, productivity, and disease resistance under local conditions, with results expected after a three-year study. The initiative aims to boost local milk production and create new livelihood opportunities for small-scale farmers, urban households, and unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
