The Blackened Forest Of Puszcza Solska
Burned trees and scorched ground remain after wildfires swept through parts of Puszcza Solska near Bilgoraj, Poland on 14 May, 2026. Wildfires that started at the beginning of May in Puszcza Solska have damaged 1157 hectare of forest in southeastern Poland, threatening local ecosystems and requiring extensive firefighting operations during periods of drought and unusual Spring heat. The local forest district administration of NAtional Forests says that large parts of these forests will need to be cut and replaced. (Photo by Dominika Zarzycka/NurPhoto)
