National Dengue Day - Ministry Of Health And Family Welfare

A person scoops Aedes mosquito larvae from water accumulated in a flowerpot using a cup in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on May 16, 2026. National Dengue Day is observed annually in India on May 16, introduced by the Government of India through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2010 as a pre-monsoon alert. The day aims to mobilize public awareness, enhance community participation, and implement preventive measures before mosquito breeding peaks. It promotes strategies to prevent mosquito breeding, such as eliminating stagnant water and maintaining water storage tanks. Aedes mosquitoes, specifically Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, spread dengue fever while feeding on human blood. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
