Purple-rumped Sunbird (Leptocoma Zeylonica) - Animal India

A female and a male Purple-rumped Sunbird (Leptocoma zeylonica) move around a guava tree in search of prey in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on May 18, 2026. The species is endemic to the Indian subcontinent and plays a significant role as an avian pollinator and bio-indicator in South Asian ecosystems. The male exhibits an iridescent metallic-green crown and shoulder patch, dark maroon-brown back, shimmering violet-purple rump, and a brilliant metallic purple throat bordered by dark maroon, with a bright lemon-yellow chest and belly.
