Nepal’s Record Holding Climber Kami Rita Sherpa Receives Heroic Welcome In Kathmandu

Kami Rita Sherpa, Nepal's record-holding climber with 32 ascents of Mount Everest, arrives in Kathmandu, Nepal, on May 22, 2026. Sherpa is welcomed by family members and relatives upon his return. Born on January 17, 1970, in Thame, Solukhumbu District, Kami Rita is currently engaged as a mountain guide on Mount Everest. He first summited Mount Everest in 1994. The 56-year-old climber has been scaling mountains for over two decades. His mountaineering journey began in 1992 when he joined an expedition to Everest as a support staff member. Since then, Kami Rita has embarked on numerous expeditions, summiting Everest multiple times. His achievements extend beyond Everest, as he has also climbed other peaks, including K2, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Manaslu.
