South Korea Seeks UNESCO World Heritage Expansion For 'Getbol' Tidal Flats

An electric cart is parked outside a home on Yeojado Island in Yeosu, South Korea, on May 29, 2026. The vehicle is widely used by residents on the small island, where private automobiles are uncommon. Yeojado is located at the center of Yeojaman Bay and serves as a key vantage point for understanding the ecological connectivity of tidal-flat ecosystems across Boseong, Suncheon, Yeosu, and Goheung, which are being considered for inclusion in the proposed second-phase expansion of the UNESCO World Heritage property “Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats.” (Photo by Chris Jung/NurPhoto)
