South Korea Seeks UNESCO World Heritage Expansion For 'Getbol' Tidal Flats
Local residents and visiting journalists ride electric carts toward a ferry terminal on Yeojado Island in Yeosu, South Korea, on May 29, 2026. The vehicles are widely used for transportation on the small island, which is located at the center of Yeojaman Bay and serves as a key location for understanding the ecological connectivity of tidal-flat ecosystems across South Korea’s southwestern coast. The area is being considered for inclusion in the proposed second-phase expansion of the UNESCO World Heritage property “Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats.” (Photo by Chris Jung/NurPhoto)
