Anti-ICE Protests Amid Inmate Hunger Strike At Delaney Hall Immigration Detention Facility

Members of the New Jersey State Police close Doremus Avenue to vehicular and pedestrian traffic near Delaney Hall following a demonstration in Newark, New Jersey, on May 31, 2026. Protests against the treatment of detainees reportedly on a hunger strike at the Delaney Hall Immigration Detention Facility turned violent overnight from Saturday into Sunday, with fires set and property damaged. State Police state the closure will remain in effect indefinitely, and a curfew is in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily until further notice. New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill announces that limited visitation will resume at noon Sunday, with regular visitation hours restored on Monday for families visiting those detained at Delaney Hall.
