Anti-ICE Protests Amid Inmate Hunger Strike At Delaney Hall Immigration Detention Facility

Protesters gather while members of the New Jersey State Police close Doremus Avenue near Delaney Hall Immigration Detention Center following a demonstration in Newark, New Jersey, on May 31, 2026. The protests, which began peacefully against the reported treatment of detainees on a hunger strike at the facility, turned violent overnight from Saturday into Sunday morning, resulting in fires and property damage. State Police state that the closure will remain in effect indefinitely, and a curfew is in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily until further notice. (Photo by Kyle Mazza/NurPhoto)
