Protests Continue Outside Delaney Hall Detention Center Until New Jersey Police Violently Crackdown
Protesters gather outside Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey, on May 30, 2026, as a hunger and labor strike by detainees inside enters its ninth day. Supporters of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) and advocates for immigrants in the detention center are separated by New Jersey State Police in newly designated ''protest zones'' established by the Governor. The situation remains peaceful throughout the day until nightfall. Allegations arise of police clashing with protesters at barricades, leading to the deployment of riot police. Tear gas, rubber bullets, flash bangs, pepper balls, pepper spray, batons, shields, and horses are used, resulting in injuries. Protesters reportedly damage police vehicles and set fire to tires and trash in the roadway. (Photo by Neil Constantine/NurPhoto)
