Petropolis city has strong links to the german culture
Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 7 August 2016: The city of Petropolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, has strong links with the German culture. Since the time of Imperial Brazil, the city received thousands of German settlers whose descendants remain in the region until today. In the former official residence of the Brazilian Imperial family, there is the Imperial Museum, and in their gardens, on Sundays, there are celebrations of the culture of Germany. Folklore Germanic Bergstadt group performs dance presentations and use typical clothes of the first Germans who inhabited the region. The city has several districts and regions receiving names of regions of Germany where the immigrants came from, such as Kastellaun, Mosel, Bingen, Nassau, Ingelheim, wörrstadt, Darmstadt, Hessen and Rheinland. Throughout the year, there are several festivities in the city of Petropolis celebrating Germany. The place is also famous for its brewer circuit, an influence of German culture, which found the perfect place to establish their traditions. (Photo by Luiz Souza/NurPhoto)
