Teachers From The CNTE Attempted To Reach Banorte Stadium In Mexico City, But Their March Was Blocked By Police

Members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) march from the Zocalo in Mexico City, Mexico, toward Banorte Stadium on June 9, 2026, to demand the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, which they claim affects their pensions and retirement benefits. They also protest against the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place on June 11 in the capital. As the teachers march along Calzada de Tlalpan, police officers block their path near the Hotel Real Del Sur at the corner of Division del Norte. The teachers also demand salary increases, the reinstatement of dismissed teachers, and the start of a direct dialogue with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. They declare that if there is no direct dialogue with the president, the protests will continue and they may boycott the government. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
