Nepal’s Gen-Z Doctors Hit Street Demanding Fair Pay And Labor Rights

Nepali Gen-Z doctors stage a demonstration demanding fair pay and respect for human rights in Kathmandu, Nepal, on June 13, 2026. The protesting Gen-Z doctors, who work as interns and physicians, present a 7-point demand list calling for fair pay, regulated working hours, leave benefits, mental health support, and improved medical training conditions. They state that interns are routinely overworked, underpaid, and denied labor rights guaranteed by law, describing widespread exploitation in hospitals and training programs. The group demands an end to excessive workloads and unsafe conditions, along with full implementation of the government's promised salary increase, raising resident doctors' pay to the level of an 8th-level government officer from July. They also call for overtime pay for work beyond 48 hours per week, in line with labor law. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
