Daily Life In Nepal: Kathmandu Durbar Square

The Taleju Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Taleju Bhawani, is seen undergoing renovation and conservation work at Hanuman Dhoka in Kathmandu Durbar Square, Kathmandu, Nepal, on June 14, 2026. Originally built in 1564 by King Mahendra Malla, the temple is a significant monument within the UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been subject to periodic restoration efforts to preserve its historical and architectural heritage. The temple remains closed to the general public throughout the year and opens only once annually during the Dashain festival, when devotees are allowed to enter and offer prayers to the goddess.
