Paddy Plantation Season Starts In Nepal

Nepali farmers plant rice seedlings in muddy fields under pre-monsoon conditions on the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, on June 15, 2025, as the paddy plantation season begins with the start of Asar in the Bikram Sambat calendar ahead of National Paddy Day (Asar 15). In Nepal, rice cultivation begins with seedling nurseries, followed by transplanting during the monsoon. It is the country's most important staple crop, covering about 1.5 million hectares and accounting for nearly half of cereal production, with agriculture employing 60-66 percent of the population.
