Nepali Local Body Intensifies Effort To Make Capital Green By Planting Grass
Nepali workers prepare to plant grass in Tundikhel, a historical and public area in the capital, on June 16, 2026. The 'Tundikhel Greenery Program' aims to promote greenery by making Tundikhel more lush, attractive, and environment-friendly. Implemented in coordination with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and relevant authorities, the program focuses on planting ''Dubo'' grass, conserving greenery, and enhancing the aesthetic beauty of this open space. Tundikhel is considered an important open space from historical, cultural, and social perspectives, serving as a venue for national day celebrations, cultural and social events, sports activities, and daily exercise, strolls, and recreation for the public. In recent years, various stakeholder agencies and citizens have shown interest in the conservation, beautification, and preservation of Tundikhel's original form. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
