Activist Released Amid Protests And Fan Fest In Mexico City

Members of various social organizations and supporters demonstrate outside the Mexico City Attorney General's Office headquarters in Mexico City, Mexico, on June 18, 2026. They protest the detention of Luis Fernando Luna Olivares, known as Luna or Cheems, an activist against the World Cup and gentrification. He was reportedly taken by unidentified individuals outside his home on June 17. Adriana Guerrero, his lawyer, claims that Luna was falsely accused of drug trafficking-related crimes, which were refuted by his defense, leading to his release. Meanwhile, thousands attend the Fan Fest in Mexico City for the World Cup match between South Korea and Mexico, which Mexico wins 1-0. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
