Leopards Spotted In Kashmir Residential Area, Triggering Safety Concerns

Wildlife officials carry tranquilizer guns as they stand near a trap cage set to capture leopards and their cubs in Ompora, on the outskirts of Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir, as residents gather to watch the operation on June 21, 2026. Leopards have been repeatedly spotted in residential areas of Ompora, a densely populated suburb of Srinagar in Budgam district, alarming residents and prompting intervention by wildlife authorities. The Wildlife Department has deployed trap cages, and teams are working to capture the animals alive. Residents report that three to five leopards, including cubs, have been seen in the area in recent weeks. No injuries have been reported. (Photo by Kabli Yawar/NurPhoto)
