First Giant Panda Born In Indonesia

Rio, the first giant panda cub born in Indonesia, is seen during his public showing at Taman Safari Indonesia in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, on June 20, 2026. Rio, whose full name is Satrio Wiratama, was born to giant pandas Hu Chun and Cai Tao through artificial insemination under a China-Indonesia conservation partnership. The birth marks a milestone in giant panda conservation, as the species is notoriously difficult to breed in captivity. (Photo by Agoes Rudianto/NurPhoto)
