Bangladesh: Workers Transport Frozen Fish Unloaded From Boats At Karnaphuli Ghat In Chattogram

A worker balances a large, ice-packed sack of frozen fish on his head at Karnaphuli Ghat in Sadarghat, Chattogram, Bangladesh, on June 24, 2026. Scores of laborers work daily under strenuous conditions at the river port, transferring fresh catch from large deep-sea fishing trawlers into smaller traditional sampan boats, which are then brought ashore for cold storage and nationwide distribution. Laborers carry heavy sacks of frozen fish on their heads to transport them to nearby cold storage units after unloading from fishing boats. Hundreds of traditional port workers earn their livelihood by manually handling and moving caught fish daily at this major riverside trading point along the Karnaphuli River.
