Bagworm Moth Larva - Psychidae - Camouflaged

A bagworm moth larva (family Psychidae) is seen on a wooden window shutter in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on June 28, 2026. The larva constructs a protective case made of silk, reinforced with materials like debris, sand, or leaves for camouflage. It extends its head and thorax from the case to forage, feeding on leaves. These larvae create protective bags from silk and plant materials, ranging from 6 to 152 mm (0.25 to 6 inches), and attach them to trees, rocks, or fences during rest or pupation. They typically feed on evergreens like cedar or juniper but can also be found on deciduous trees such as honey locusts. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
