Animals Red Eyed Tree Frog Costa Rica
A red-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas) is photographed during a wildlife photography workshop near Boca Tapada in the San Carlos canton of Alajuela province, Costa Rica, on June 29, 2026. Native to the rainforests of Central America, the species is nocturnal and not venomous, relying on its vivid coloration and bulging red eyes to startle predators long enough to escape. Costa Rica covers just 0.03 percent of Earth's landmass yet harbors nearly 5 percent of all species estimated to exist on the planet, making it one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.
